The Brief
I provided all the graphic design for the Cornwall Film Festival 2005, including the iconic graphic identity above, the full 50 page festival programme, postcards, and an A4 leaflet.
I won the commission to devise a visual identity through a highly competitive tendering process. My winning solution was to translate the idea of a burgeoning, feisty, independent, regional film festival which is rapidly growing, year on year, in reputation and confidence.
Solutions
The Logo
The 'snappy clapperboard' is in the black and white of the Cornish flag, and the distressed typography reflects the low budget nature of the independent films presented. Brought together, the elements in this poster are remniniscent of European arthouse cinema of the 1930s.
The Festival Programme
The unique festival programme featured a tabbed index system which enabled festival goers to quickly browse each day of the event and easily locate any of the 180 films featured. For the first time, my unique, bespoke map incorporated all of the venues and their locations in a single page. Every film was illustrated with a still, and although the film festival had twice the amount of screenings and other events as the previous festival, I produced a programme with the same number of pages - and therefore at the same print cost.
Festival Preview poster/brochure
This A4 brochure was produced, along with a 'widescreen' postcard featuring the festival logo in the run up to the launch.
